Below average image quality

The ZTE Max XL rear camera produce below average image quality, with slightly blurry details, low dynamic range, prone to blown highlights and lack of details in shadow areas. Noise at high ISO is also pretty bad, but not unexpected considering this phone's price.

Low amount of built-in internal storage

The Max XL has only 16GB of internal storage space (probably even much less than that after software installation), but it is expandable using micro SD cards (up to 128GB).

Low amount of RAM (2GB)

The ZTE Max XL has relatively low amount of RAM, but this expected considering its low-price.

High resolution large 6-inch screen

The display plays a big role in people's buying decision. The ZTE Max XL surprises with a huge 6-inch screen and Full HD resolution, which is quite surprising considering its low price. So great viewing experience, great for browsing the web, playing games, etc.

Headphone jack with Dolby Audio sound enhancements

The Max XL maybe has a terrible speaker, but the headphone's audio quality is good using Dolby Audio sound enhancements to improve the sound quality when using headphones/earphones.

Terrible rear-firing speaker and bad positioning

The ZTE Max XL speaker is of a very low quality and you can easily block the sound when holding the phone in your hand.

Android Nougat pre-installed, no need to wait for an upgrade

The ZTE Max XL comes withe Android Nougat out-of-the-box, which is as of the time of writing, the latest available version of Android mobile operating system. So no need to wait for an upgrade to enjoy Android 7.0 latest features.

Lots of pre-installed bloatware

The ZTE Max XL comes with lots of app pre-installed on the device., including the carrier's own installed bloatware and other popular apps like Facebook, Instagram, Amazon Prime Video and others. I would have preferred a Vanilla installation.

USB-C charging port, the latest USB standard for smartphones

I was quite surprised to see a USB-C charging port for such a low-priced smartphone. This is a nice addition and in the future most smartphones will come with this connector, so you are future proof, at least in that connectivity aspect.

Supports Quick Charge 3.0 for fast battery charging

It's great to see that this budget phone also supports Quick Charge 3.0, because it's large 3990mAh battery can be charged faster, Very useful feature for people one the go that don't want to wait a lot of time until their battery is fully charged.

Very affordable price

The ZTE Max XL sells for a very low price of $130. It's not just the price, it also brings good value with graet battery life, Android Nougat pre-installed and a 6-inch display among its other features.
