Low resolution front camera compared to the competition

The front camera of the Xperia L1 has only 5MP resolution. We are already used to have much higher resolution cameras and it's quite unfortunate that the L1 hasn't given a good front-camera treatment. There is no word about the sensor model either.

Expandable using micro SD card

The Xperia L1 comes with a micro SD card slot, which allows you to expand over he internal capacity. The L1 supports card up to 256GB in size.

Quite limited amount of storage, only 16GB

The Xperia L1 has quite limited amount of storage, only 16GB. I believe that the user-available space is even lower than that. This means that heavy multimedia users will probably have to purchase a micro SD card to have more space for their photos, videos and apps.

Large display

Although the resolution isn't my thing, only HD, the screen is very large, promoting better viewing experience when playing games, watching videos or just browsing and reading content on the web.

Low pixel density display is bad for virtual reality

The Sony Xperia L1 features a very low pixel density screen. This phone is terrible for consuming VR content via Google Cardboard or its compatible VR headsets. Content will appear highly pixelized.

Only HD resolution (low considering the screen size)

The Sony Xperia L1 has only HD 720p resolution, quite low considering its 5.5-inch screen size. It's definitely not suited for VR because of the low pixel density. Would have been better to see a Full HD resolution in this new 2017 mid-range release.

Rounded frame feels comfortable in the hand

The Xperia L1 has a rounded frame, which was designed not just to make the phone look sleek, but also to make it more comfortable to hold compared to a phone with straight edges. It nicely fits the curvature of the hand.

Available in three different color variations

It's nice to see that the Xperia L1 is being offered in three different color variations, including White, Black and Pink. You can choose whichever color fits your style best.

Very narrow borders

The Sony Xperia L1 has ultra-slim borders, which is great to see on a mid-range mobile phone.

Uninspiring design, time for a change Sony

Maybe it's just me, but I really had enough of the same old design that Sony is using on its Xperia phones. It's time to innovate in the design department as well. Not that it's ugly, but if you are a Sony fan like me, you want to be more excited about phone's design in 2017.

Large top and bottom bezels

I am not surprised to see those big top and bottom bezels on a Sony mid-range phone. With such slim borders, you can just wonder how it would look with slimmer top and bottom bezels. Minus one point for the design in that aspect.

Android Nougat pre-installed

The Sony Xperia L1 comes with Android Nougat, the latest Android OS version in its release. It's great that when you buy an entry-level phone, at least you know that it comes with the latest Android OS, makes you feel even better with your purchase.

Dual SIM model

The Sony Xperia L1 is being offered in a dual SIM format as well. So if you need to use two SIMs, like for work for example, you have this variation available for you as well.

I'm disappointed to see this 5.5" phone with only 2620mAh battery capacity. Sony was the king of the batteries back then. It should have at least 3000mAh battery.
