The Asus ZenFone AR is the first smartphone in the world to come with 8GB of RAM. There is also going to be model with lower amount of RAM, including a 6GB variant. I was amazed to hear that, because my HP i7 laptop has 8GB of RAM and this phone now comes with amount of RAM of a good laptop computer, this is amazing. If there is also a 6GB version, I assume that there isn't a need for 8GB to support the VR and AR capabilities of this device, but of course I'm sure no one would complain about it :)

Asus really wanted to show muscles in CES2017 and it definitely did it big time with two World's 1st, including the first phone with 8 GB of RAM and the first phone that come with both Google Tango and Google Daydream on the same device. This smartphone is going to run everything smooth like butter. I'm sure that from now on we are going to see almost all of the high-end devices being offered with a 8GB RAM version, this is a really powerful future proof smartphone.

importance ranking: #7 in the 'Performance & Hardware' category and #9 among all categories for Asus ZenFone AR device

  • Tango actually needs much less than 8GB, I think that 4GB of RAM is enough, the Phab2 Pro has 4GB. The question is that if developers have the option to take advantage of the added RAM to bring better experiences, and I think this is isn't the case. Developers will also want to target as much devices as possible, especially in Tango early adoption stage, so I really don't understand how this phone can benefit 8GB of RAM for anything. Just saying, not that nobody will complain about it, after all, the phone is being offered in 6GB as well, which also cost less.
