The Google Pixel XL is suppose to be a great new device, Google's flagship smartphone that suppose to compete against all the high-end smartphones out there, including the iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 and others. So why Google came up with such a boring and uninspiring design. If you are revealing a new product, at least make it stand out from the rest. Even Gizmodo's Michael Nunez called the Google Pixel dumb and ugly.
I think that many companies just underestimate the importance of the look of the phone. When you come up with a new product, the first thing people see is the look of it, and it suppose to make WOW people or at least make them feel curious, but no, the Google Pixel XL just looks like all the other phones out there, plain boring and.. well, I won't say ugly, but it certainly looks an old phone.
Is it so hard to design a phone that looks different? Just look at the Nubia Z11, Xiaomi Mi Mix, the LG G5, The Galaxy S7 edge, the HTC 10 and the Sony Xperia X - there is certainly enough room to making fine touches and tweaks to the design to make it stand out from the rest. What Google did with the rear part of the phone is not just that it isn't enough, it actually made the phone look a bit outdated and made me feel like Google didn't feel like investing in the design. So overall I'm really disappointed with the look of the Pixel XL, and hopefully the next iteration of those phones will look better than the 2016 versions.
