I was really surprised to see that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, which is a budget phone, can capture such beautiful images in low-light. The phone was already reviewed by firstpost.com. The guys who reviewed it already posted some images taken with the Redmi Note 5 Pro's rear-facing camera. I will leave the daylight image quality for a later post, but I want to talk about the low-light performance.
There are plenty of low-light images posted on their Flickr account. Take a look at this picture for example. It was taken without a flash in a relatively dark place. The rear-facing camera features an f/2.2 lens. The sample image was shot at ISO 6400 at 1/14s shutter speed. The image still has quite a lot of noise but it's very usable. I was surprised to see such a high ISO images looking relatively clean. I mean, it's a mobile phone that uses a tiny sensor. Maybe the second camera helped buff up the image quality.
Bottom line is that the low-light image quality is very impressive. There are many other photos which use lower ISO sensitivity and they look amazing. Take a look at this image. This image was shot in low-light at ISO 1600 with a/14s shutter speed without flash. Look how sharp it is, and you can barely notice noise in the mid-tones, it's amazing how good it looks.
I have no doubt that this rear camera will be praised by many reviewers, not just by firstpost.com. This si incredible image quality for a budget phone, I definitely didn't expect it to be that good, not with that relatively slow aperture and with a budget phone.
If you are searching for an affordable Android smartphone with a dual camera that can take high-quality photos in low-light conditions, you should put the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro at the top of your list, really impressed with it so far. There are many other low-light photos already posted by people who got the chance to review it, so just search for early reviews online and you can browse the photos and see the results yourself.
