Very small sensor for the front camera

The XA1 Plus comes with a very small 1/4" sensor for the front camera. It's nice to see that Sony didn't opt for a higher resolution and 8MP should stabilize that a bit, still, I would like t see larger sensors for the front camera, which nowadays is not less important than the rear.

Slower lens compared to the competition

When you see phones like the Galaxy J7 Pro and J7+ with f/1.7 aperture lens for the rear camera, you get disappointed when you see the a mid-range phone like the XA1 coming with only f/2.0 aperture lens.

Sensor resolution is just way too high for its small sensor

The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus comes with 23MP 1/2.3" sensor. It's a relatively large sensor in mobile phone terms, but it's still very small for such a high resolution, and this will negatively impact its low light performance. I don't see any need for such hi-res sensors, such a waste.

High amount of RAM

The Xperia XA1 Plus comes in either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, which is plenty to support smooth multi-tasking capabilities.

Big top and bottom bezels

I think that Sony should re-think its industrial design ideas for its Xperia smartphones and get rid of those huge top and bottom bezels. The smartphone market is shifting to more compact and bezeless phones while Sony seems to stay with that ugly design.

Relatively heavy phone

The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus weighs 190g, which is one the heavy side for a 5.5-inch phone.

Fingerprint sensor is embedded within the power button

What an ingenious idea is to put the fingerprint sensor inside the rear power button. It's actually the most convenient way to unlock the device, better than putting it in the home button or at the back.

Good battery capacity

The Xperia XA1 Plus comes with a 3430 mAh battery capacity, which is good for a 5.5-inch smartphone. I've seen better, but I am not complaining.
